India is the Capital of Blind with almost 1/4th of World’s Blind population residing in India.
According to recent estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) Prevention of Blindness and Deafness Programme about 28,50,00,000 people are visually impaired worldwide: 3,90,00,000 are blind and 24,60,00,000 have low vision (severe or moderate visual impairment)
As many as 88,00,000 people in India were found to be blind in 2015 and another 4,77,00,000 people had moderate and severe vision impairment making the country the home of almost a quarter of the total blind people worldwide, according to a study published online by The Lancet Global Health journal on August 2.
